Job Description

This role has arisen due to our ever increasing work flow and we need an extra pair of hands to get work out the door on time and to order. Working as part of a team of web application developers, you will report to the Head of Technology but will also have the support from our senior developers and the rest of the team.

Using a variety of web technologies, including PHP, JavaScript and SQL, you will be responsible for building and maintaining sites using our bespoke e-commerce platform and extending our platform with new features and supplier integrations. You will have input to project plans and technical/design documents whilst taking a degree of responsibility for architecture and design. It doesn’t matter if you are a graduate, self taught or coming from a freelance or office based background, as long as you are passionate about your work, we would like to hear from you.

Skills Range Essential:

Able to communicate effectively with the team and clients

  • Able to work in the UK
  • Proven commercial development experience
  • Confident working in PHP
  • PostgreSQL (or similar, e.g. MySQL, SQL Server)
  • HTML & CSS
  • JavaScript


Desirable:

  • A relevant degree

  • Subversion or other source control such as git

  • Linux, ideally Gentoo

Additional Information:

Located 5 minutes from Brighton mainline train station on the 8th floor of the funky and creative New England House, with beautiful views over Preston Park and Brighton. We have a modern office with pool table and well equipped staff area. We are a young and friendly bunch who like to socialise together at any opportunity. We have annual summer and Christmas events paid for by the Company, such as volleyball down on the beach and last year a treasure hunt in teams around Brighton, but people organise events off their own backs too.

We work Monday - Thursday 09:00 - 17:30 but on Friday we finish at 15:00 and in the nicer weather we usually head down the pub! We’re a fairly casual crowd, but if you are client facing you are naturally asked to spruce yourself up a bit for the occasion.


Upon successful completion of your probationary period, you will be offered the opportunity to join our company healthcare and stakeholder pension schemes and you will automatically join our death in service scheme. We offer 20 days holiday on top of bank holidays, rising by 1 day each year to a maximum of 25 days.
