This Week...government suggests giving away free holidays, Google+ opens up to app users and get to know your followers.....

Welcome back and happy Halloween to you all. We hope you all had a great weekend and remembered that the clocks went back! As usual to start your week off we’ve picked out our top news of all things that are going on at CWT Digital as well as in the Travel and Technology world. Learn about the government’s plans to boost UK tourism, Google+’s new features and read our MD’s opinion on the CCS move from Amadeus.

Travel News:

MP’s to offer free travel to poorer families-31st October- A new scheme which has been recommended by MP’s could see poorer families being given free and subsidised holidays. The scheme was a result of a report which suggested that if struggling families were offered trips and free travel then it could avoid them becoming socially excluded. The scheme will be funded by the taxpayer and it is believed will generate as much as £5 billion of value to UK tourism.

Cruise News: Scotland to target European cruise lines-27th October- In an attempt to increase numbers of cruise ships calling to Scotland, Cruise Scotland are targeting European cruise lines MSC, Costa Cruises and Compagnie du Ponant. Cruise Scotland has also been given £11,000 funding from Visit Scotland to help improve the amount of cruise lines calling to Scotland. Cruise Scotland aim to win over the cruise lines by creating itineraries beginning and ending in Edinburgh as well as creating sales presentations and host fam trips for all three lines.


Technology News:

Google+ is now open for App users- 28th October-Google+ has now opened up membership to its 40 million apps users. Since the launch in June apps users haven’t been able to sign up, a controversial move by Google considering app users are already advocates of the Google brand. Alongside this Google+ has also released new features called ‘Ripples’ ,a tool which enables you to see a posts activity/ amount of shares/ top contributors and  ‘What’s Hot’ which acts the same as Twitters trends showing the most popular content.


Know your Twitter followers-28th October- A new site called ‘Know your Followers’ which is designed to give details of the type of followers your Twitter account has was launched last week. The app gives information on the demographics, locations and interests of your followers to help you get an understanding of what type of people you are communicating to. The app was tested on several celebrities accounts for example Katie Price’s account is most popular with single women from Liverpool and Newcastle. The service is still in beta and can be tried for free as long as you have over 20 followers, you can try out the site for yourself here.
