Tourism in Dubai gets off to a strong start in 2011. 12th May – Dubai has seen an increase of almost 14% in hotel stays in the first three months of the year, reports TTG Live.
Cruise news: new performers on P&O ship, new Portsmouth terminal opens and Norwegian Epic to host Nickelodeon stars. 13th-17th May – TTG Live reports on the announcement of Derren Brown and Russell Watson as performers on selected P&O cruises. Plus, breaking Travel News cover Vince Cable opening the new Portsmouth cruise terminal and NCL revealing the Nickelodeon stars to feature on Norwegian Epic’s summer cruises.
Four countries account for half of Brits’ holidays. 16th May – New research by the Co-operative Travel reveals that over half of holidays taken by Britons are in just four countries: Spain, Greece, Turkey and the USA.
Azerbaijan sees interest increase by over 4,000% following Eurovision win. 16th May – Breaking Travel News have responses to the news that interest in Azerbaijan on TripAdvisor increased by 4,662% following the country’s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Google’s travel strategy goes into space! 11th May – Google’s UK strategists have produced a fun animated video which takes a look at how travel technology could change and improve our travel experiences in the future.
Half of UK teenagers haven’t heard of location check-in services. 14th May – TNooz has reported on research which suggests that 48% of 11 to 18 year olds are unaware of check-in based travel services, and that nearly two thirds of those that are aware of such tools view them as unnecessary.
